Domestic Violence
This year the Greatest Generation would like to draw attention to domestic violence in Washington County and to support local resources supporting individuals impacted by it. We begin this effort by sponsoring a drive to collect items needed by individuals seeking shelter and protection from domestic violence. This drive will occur in conjunction with the Bunco sign-up and event. Information and items to be sought or dropped off will be available at the Bunco sign-up table on January 29, February 5 and 12, as well as at Bunco on February 17. Please join us in touching the lives of those in our community that are hurting.

POLST
Life is filled with decisions. Some are easy, some are hard. One of the hardest decisions is not of our choosing nor about you. Often a spouse, a child, or a friend is left with the hardest decisions...about you. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and physicians are required by law to pursue every possible measure to extend a life. In some situations these professionals may turn to family members or even close friends to determine your preference in just how far they need to go. Even when family knows your desire, their love may be too great to honor your wishes.
"Do Not Resuscitate" (DNR) orders are well known but are frequently ignored or insufficient. Advanced Directives are good and still recommended, but are frequently unknown or unavailable.
Oregon has led the nation in the development of the Physician Order for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) specifying an individual's preferences regarding Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), the desired level of Medical Interventions, use of antibiotics, and artificially administered nutrition. The form is completed by your doctor and you. Both of you sign the agreement (required) and you take it home. It's suggested the POLST document by readily visible and available, perhaps on a refrigerator or other obvious locations, so it may be accessed in an emergency situation and EMT's or family can make sure the POLST document travels with you to any hospital or care situation. For more info, talk to your health professional.
