No Ichabod
(By Rose Canela)

Eli, the priest of Israel, had a daughter-in-law that gave birth to a son and she named him Ichabod. Ichabod's name meant, "For the glory of the Lord has departed" (1 Samuel 4:21).  The Lord's glory departs when our actions are not pleasing to Him.  He is very clear in His commandments of what He expects from us, it is us that miss the mark.  His word says that we are more than conquerors, we are above and not beneath, we are blessed going out and blessed coming in.  The Lord says that He knows the thoughts and plans that He has for us.  Thoughts of peace and not of evil, plans to give us hope.  Go back to the last thought you had of your circumstances, are you having an Ichabod moment?  And by that I mean, are you lamenting on your woes and feeling defeated? Are you speaking words that are negative against your family, friends, pastor, and church leaders or about yourself?

Sit down and make a list with two columns.   Name and list the first column with "blessings" and the other with "Ichabods".  I can almost guarantee you will list more blessings than Ichabods. And if not, reexamine your thoughts.  Cast down every imagination that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

Let's start this New Year with Emmanuel, God with us.  Let's be vigilant and on guard of our thoughts.  Our thoughts lead us into actions that cause the glory of God not to depart from us but to keep us on the path of His Righteousness for His Name sake. So for 2010, No Ichabod!

Life Church is blessed to have the best childcare staff in any church in the state. Our mission is to provide excellent care for the littlest of God's Children so that their parents can fully enjoy all that Life Church has to offer. There is currently a couple of places open on our paid staff and of course room for volunteers as well. These children bring great joy to those who serve them. Interested in finding out more? Weed and Feed

(By Marilyn Cummings)
There is an amazing product out on the market called "Weed and Feed". It actually feeds your lawn and makes it lush and green while getting rid of the gnarly old weeds that not only take up residence and make your garden look less than perfect, but unless removed, weeds rob nutrients from the soil. "Weed and Feed" reminds me of the word of God. How reassuring it is to know that we not only can be fed and nourished by the scriptures, but we can also find a solution for our "weeds" that crop up; and they will crop up! I'm sure you know that the root on a weed goes down deep into the soil, and if you don't pull ALL of the root out, the weed will come back up in all it's fury! Some weeds even have lovely little flowers on them but underneath, where we cannot see them, they have deep tuff roots. The Word admonishes us in Hebrews 12:1 to "repent of the sin that so easily entangles us, and to run the race with patience." It is not a one time affair to get rid of the weeds. As gardeners know, it is a constant battle, digging up the deep roots so that our garden is green and beautiful. It is a daily race that we are running to keep ahead of our "weeds". Just know this ... that the Master Gardener is longing for us to have a beautiful garden and He will constantly give us the strength and know-how to keep our spiritual garden free of weeds. Now, let's get weeding!

Gods Word For Today
(by Bonnie Combs)

(1 Corinthians 16:13-14)  "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage, be strong.  Do everything in love."   God gave this passage to me, then I wrote:  "Work is giving of ourselves to be effective Christians.  We need a vision to succeed.  God has a purpose and a plan for each of us.  We must be willing.  We need to follow through to completion."  Run that race!  Be committed to God every day.  We will make mistakes, have problems, get stressed.  It will help us grow in our faith. Never give up.  Trust God for it all.  Love & Prayers ...

Special Thanks!!!

Thank you to everyone participating in the Greatest Generation's adoption of a family for Christmas.  It was a huge success!  Together, in obedience to Christ, we became God's hands and feet in delivering a miracle to a family needing a very special blessing. By blessing others we too, are blessed!!
